Smart Control, Shell China, and Tianjin Zhongdian New Energy Research Institute Forge Strategic Partnership to Advance Immersion-Cooled Sodium-Ion Energy Storage Applications in AIDCs

On November 2, 2026, Shanghai Smart Control Intelligent Technology Co., Ltd. (hereinafter referred to as "Smart Control"), Shell (China) Limited ("Shell China"), and Tianjin Zhongdian New Energy Research Institute Co., Ltd. held a strategic cooperation signing ceremony and business discussions at Smart Control’s Shanghai headquarters. The three parties reached a strategic cooperation understanding to jointly advance technology integration, solution development, and practical applications of immersion-cooled sodium-ion battery energy storage systems in Artificial Intelligence Data Centers (AIDCs). Representatives from Yongzhou Industrial Investment Group, Yongzhou Xiaoxiang Energy Group, Hangzhou Dianwatt, and other organizations were also invited to attend the event.

The strategic partnership will leverage the complementary technological expertise, industrial capabilities, and resources of all three parties.

Shell China brings extensive expertise and resources in the energy transition, the research and development of electrical insulating and cooling fluids, and market development. As one of the world's largest fuel retailers, Shell operates approximately 46,000 service stations across nearly 80 countries and regions worldwide.

Smart Control possesses strong technological expertise and commercialization capabilities in intelligent electrical control, new energy, and immersion-cooled energy storage system solutions.

Tianjin Zhongdian New Energy Research Institute contributes established technical expertise and industrial resources in the research, development, manufacturing, sales, and servicing of energy products and systems, including sodium-ion battery cells.

Driven by a shared vision of developing and deploying fully immersed sodium-ion and lithium-ion battery energy storage systems for data center backup power applications, the three parties will collaborate on technical validation and joint solution development. Together, they aim to explore immersion-cooled sodium-ion energy storage solutions better suited to the demanding requirements of AIDCs, including high computing power, intensive thermal management, and stringent safety standards.

During the event, guests toured Smart Control’s exhibition hall, gaining firsthand insights into the company’s dual-engine business strategy centered on Intelligent Control + New Energy. The subsequent discussions covered a wide range of topics, including developments in the immersion-cooled energy storage industry, sodium-ion battery technology roadmaps, immersion cooling fluid solutions, and energy efficiency management for computing centers.

Smart Control has long been committed to advancing immersion-cooled energy storage technologies. The company has successively introduced immersion-cooled battery PACKs, integrated immersion-cooled energy storage cabinets, and green energy solutions combining DC power supply with immersion-cooled energy storage.

These solutions have already achieved commercial deployment across multiple projects, including data center backup power systems, immersion-cooled sodium-ion energy storage, mobile supplementary power supply for fuel and EV charging station networks, and telecommunications base stations.

In addition, Smart Control’s energy storage solutions can be widely deployed in intelligent computing centers, parking garages, industrial parks, ultra-fast charging stations, steel plants, and other applications, delivering high safety, high efficiency, and strong environmental adaptability to customers across diverse industries.

Mr. Zhang Huahong, Chairman of Smart Control, stated:

“Smart Control has maintained a long-term focus on the energy storage sector, continuously increasing our investment in immersion-cooled energy storage and immersion-cooled sodium-ion battery technologies while expanding our business capabilities in these areas.

This strategic cooperation marks an important step in exploring new opportunities for energy storage applications within the AIDC sector.

Moving forward, we will work closely with our partners to systematically advance joint technical integration, solution optimization, and related initiatives. We are committed to accelerating the adoption of immersion-cooled sodium-ion energy storage technologies in computing infrastructure and contributing to the green, low-carbon development of the computing industry.”
